EQUITY STATEMENT

“Montalvo has been on a diversity, equity, and inclusion journey for some time.  Almost two years ago, the organization seized an opportunity to enhance our DEI efforts through a Hewlett Foundation grant to pursue a deeper dive around DEI and the development of a comprehensive roadmap.  With the help of our diversity consultants, we created a DEIB Plan, established an internal Equity Review Committee, and begun increasing the diversity of our staff and our board.

The board, leadership, and staff have made a commitment to reimagine and reorient the vision, values and priorities of Montalvo to create a more accessible, equitable and belonging arts institution. Our strategy is to increase access to Montalvo programming and events for everyone in our local communities and beyond; advance equitable structures, policies and practices; and create a culture of belonging.

Montalvo will forge new pathways to engagement, both within and outside Montalvo, with the goal of increasing the participation of historically underserved and underrepresented communities by fostering inclusive practices through programming, events, and exhibitions.

Our vision is one of an inclusive and accessible arts organization that exemplifies a culture of belonging internally and externally.  Steeped in our values and using our greatest strengths – people, programs, and place – we seek to create meaningful experiences for everyone with whom we engage and to continually expand who engages with us.”
