ABOUT JAPANESE COMMUNITY YOUTH COUNCIL

The Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC) is youth development organization located in San Francisco. JCYC has been selected as the 2023 California Nonprofit of the Year by Assemblymember Phil Ting. JCYC is one of San Francisco’s most successful child and youth development service organizations serving young people from all racial and socio-economic backgrounds. POSITION OVERVIEW

JCYC seeks a passionate and results-driven Development Director to join their leadership team. The Development Director will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our organization by leading fundraising efforts, cultivating donor relationships, and implementing strategic initiatives to support their growth and impact. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising, team leadership, and strategic planning.

This position reports to the Executive Director.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee JCYC fund development in support of a growing organizational budget.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes the establishment of a major gifts program and grants program aligned with the organization's mission and goals. 

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to establish ambitious fundraising targets.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing donors while identifying and engaging new prospective donors. 

  • Create personalized cultivation plans and stewardship strategies to enhance donor engagement and long-term support.

  • Identify and cultivate new partnerships with corporations, community organizations, and other stakeholders to expand the organization's visibility and donor base.

  • Oversee all JCYC fundraising events, including the annual SF Aloha Run as well as individual department fundraisers executed by Board and/or JCYC staff.

  • Direct the submission of grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Ensure alignment with programmatic goals and monitor grant reporting requirements.

  • Oversee marketing and communications output and deliverables. In collaboration with program staff develop compelling communications and public relations strategy to elevate profile of organization and expand funding growth. 

  • Expand a culture of philanthropy with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Co-manage and inspire shared staff, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and results-oriented team culture.

  • Utilize data-driven insights to monitor fundraising progress, track donor trends, and adjust strategies as needed. Generate regular reports for the leadership team and Board of Directors.

  • Collaborate with the Finance team to develop and manage the annual development budget. Ensure responsible stewardship of resources and alignment with strategic priorities.

COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree in a relevant field preferred

  • Eight or more years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising with a proven track record of successful major gift solicitation, development operations and staff management

  • Three to five years of supervisory experience

  • Center equity and inclusion in work with a strong commitment to JCYC mission and youth and families JCYC serves

  • Strong leadership and team management skills

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated ability to build and nurture relationships with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporations

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement innovative fundraising strategies

  • Systems thinker who can quickly understand how different parts of an organization intersect, support and inform each other

  • Knowledgeable of fundraising and operations best practices

  • Proficiency in fundraising software, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Passion for the mission and vision of JCYC
