POSITION OVERVIEW
The Executive Director (ED) is an experienced and proven operations manager who partners with HSF’s active Board of Directors, large corps of highly engaged parent volunteers, and small, dedicated staff to sustain and enhance the Foundation’s exceptional success.
As the key staff leader in a robust parent volunteer/staff partnership, the Executive Director supports the day-to-day work of the foundation. The ideal candidate will be energized and enthused by the extraordinary community support, deeply committed to increasing community-wide giving to meet the significant challenges facing public school financing, devoted to success in partnering with an active and engaged Board, creative, dedicated volunteers, and talented staff. The ideal candidate will be intrigued by the strategic opportunity to support the next steps in the evolution of the Foundation’s success, comfortable with a transition atmosphere and eager to maintain the cutting-edge nature of the Foundation’s work. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly instill confidence in his/her/their (unclear if all pronouns should be included) professional abilities among multiple constituencies.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and manages a team of three FTE and several contractors. The ED works closely with dedicated volunteers to assure the goals of HSF are met.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage and help guide day-to-day activities of the foundation including but not limited to staff management, financial oversight, volunteer relations and support, and community relations.
Oversee annual fall solicitation and assist where needed, including manufacturing of solicitation letters and emails, marketing pieces, and social media, as appropriate.
Work closely with, offer support and guidance to HSF’s Board of Directors (changes annually) to assure successful solicitations and events are managed as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Manage the recruitment, development, evaluation, nurturing, compensation, growth, and retention of staff.
Maintain personnel policies consistent with current law and the values of the Foundation.
Value, promote and support the active participation of volunteers.
Oversee a service-oriented, fast-paced office and management information systems/databases.
Lead effective systems to track scaling progress and regularly evaluate program components to measure successes that will be communicated to the Board, donors, and other constituents.
Expand local and other revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and expansion while simultaneously building on the strong balance sheet in the long-term.
Deepen and refine all aspects of communications, from web presence to external relations to digital & social media campaigns, with the goal of creating an even stronger brand in the community.
Oversee online strategies, ensuring that web site is effective, user-friendly, and maximizes on-line exposure and utilizing social media to achieve visibility, programmatic, and philanthropic goals.
Oversee the execution of the “brand”, ensuring that programmatic and institutional communications and print and online collateral are consistent.
Attend Board meetings and work with Board chair to create and implement plan for Board fundraising engagement.
Monitor, participate in and adhere to best practices in philanthropy and communications sectors.
Drive the annual budget process ensuring monitoring and management of expenses, regular, accurate and timely reporting, sound accounting practices and compliance with applicable laws, and successful completion of the annual audit.
Maintain/develop productive working relationships with key school district leaders and community members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to manage the day-to-day details of operating the Foundation, while being able to think, plan and act strategically
Five years demonstrated success in personnel management and in motivating, supervising, and supporting staff and in supporting volunteers to achieve measurable results in a high quality, dynamic and innovative environment
Exceptionally strong interpersonal skills providing the essential linkage between Board, volunteers, and staff, a team player
Successful experience working with a nonprofit Board of Directors (may we add another bullet point that includes experience working with large groups of volunteers?)
Financial, analytical, management and oversight skills; demonstrated ability to create and monitor budgets, to ensure adequate fiscal monitoring/reporting; and to complete audit requirements
Ability to prioritize, delegate and stay upbeat and flexible in managing multiple simultaneous tasks effectively
Exceptional communication skills including writing, public speaking, meeting facilitation, and consensus building
Financial and/or business management with similar revenue streams, including budgeting and oversight, nonprofit compliance, and reporting
Senior management experience in a comparably focused educational and/or fundraising organization
Experience working and partnering with a highly engaged community-based Board of Directors (similar to above bullet point – Successful experience working with a nonprofit Board of Directors)
Ability to attract, develop, and retain paid and volunteer staff, maintain a high level of performance, and effectively and respectfully utilize their talents

Minimum education requirement: Bachelor’s Degree, or similar work experience
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends

SALARY OR SALARY RANGE
The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $165,000 plus reimbursement for individual health insurance and generous PTO.
