POSITION OVERVIEW
The Chief Development Officer (CDO) leads GLIDE’s efforts to create and implement new and innovative strategies to generate increased revenue. The CDO is a bold, strategic, and experienced fundraising leader with a track record of success generating traditional and new streams of revenue within organizations positioned for growth. In addition to meeting its annual and multi-year fundraising goals, the CDO oversees the planning, implementation, and tracking of audacious, innovative, and inspirational strategies to develop new donors and contributions in support of GLIDE’s exciting strategic vision, goals, and priority initiatives, including a series of initiative based campaigns. Possessing a social justice mindset, the successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience advancing racial justice and DEI as a development leader.
The CDO serves as an agent for change for GLIDE, elevating its funding to new levels.
The CDO leads individual and institutional fundraising efforts and utilizes the organization’s activities, programs, events, contacts, and relationships as opportunities to promote the organization, in collaboration with the President & CEO, Board of Trustees, and staff.
The CDO will partner with the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer to drive visibility for the GLIDE brand via messaging, collateral, platforms, and distribution to increase donor, media, and community engagement and ensure a unified and powerful voice.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The CDO reports directly to the President and CEO and leads, manages, and inspires a talented team of over 20 professionals whose primary roles are to cultivate relationships, develop strategies, advance opportunities for revenue growth and support development operations.
The CDO works in close collaboration with the President and CEO, Board of Directors, and other senior staff and key volunteer leadership to advance and exceed GLIDE’s annual fundraising goals. This position serves on GLIDE’s executive leadership team.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Growth and Strategy
Develop and implement new strategies to increase revenue generation in all areas of fundraising, including but not limited to; individual giving (major, annual, planned), institutional giving, special events, and other opportunities to develop new revenue streams.
Develop a comprehensive, actionable development plan that addresses the needs and concerns of each prospective donor group, and positions GLIDE to radically increase funding.
Broaden and deepen GLIDE’s appeal, reach, and support among nonprofit and governmental funders, including foundations, charitable trusts, non-governmental, and governmental organizations.
Implement funding opportunities in support of the GLIDE FORWARD plan, specifically in the areas of:
Pathways to Self Sufficiency
Extending GLIDE’s reach across San Francisco
Breaking cycles of Intergenerational Poverty
Driving Systemic Change, and
Leading Transformational Change
Lead and provide vital perspectives advancing short- and long-term organizational strategic and operational planning and positioning.
Engage and develop the Board’s fundraising knowledge and participation in fundraising activities.
Strengthen and expand a culture of philanthropy within GLIDE.
Inform and educate the CEO, Board, key leadership, and staff, of best practices in philanthropy and the non-profit sector.
Development Operations
Assess the current Development Department structure, identify areas to improve effectiveness and efficiency both within the department and across the organization.
Provide leadership and oversite to the development team and existing development activities.
Oversee the effectiveness of GLIDE’s existing fundraising systems and processes (CRM- Salesforce), and all technology systems.
Partner with the President and CEO, Development committee Co-chairs and board members to establish stretch performance measures, monitor results and evaluate the effectiveness of GLIDE’s development program.
Maintain accountability and compliance standards for donors, funding sources and GLIDE.
Strengthen donor stewardship programs across GLIDE to support the development activities of the department.
Support the Board Executive team, and staff represent GLIDE to various constituencies, and coach them to identify, cultivate, and solicit charitable gifts.
Ensure attainment of the organization’s fund development activities through the selection, development motivation and evaluation of staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in relevant field and 10+ years’ non-profit management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
CFRE, CAP or other fundraising advanced degrees or certifications highly regarded
Track record of successful experience creating new and aggressive funding growth strategies
Experience leading by example, managing, nurturing, inspiring, and growing a large team of talented development staff
Strategic, creative, and entrepreneurial, with an innovative mindset
Passion for the mission of GLIDE and a personal commitment to racial equity
Experience launching and leading bold new strategic fundraising initiatives at a multi-service agency
Demonstrated experience managing a major gifts portfolio, and overseeing all components of a thriving fundraising operation including annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation giving, government grants, events, and other revenue sources
Experience working in a community-based social service agency with adults and families in relationship to homelessness and poverty and the problems that often come alongside these experiences

SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position starts at $200,000 and includes benefits including full employee premium and a percentage of dependents premium for medical, vision and dental. FSA, EAP, 15 vacation days, 4 personal days annually, 13 paid holidays a year, retirement savings plan with employer match, group term life Insurance, disability, commuter benefits, and employee referral program.
